Research environments are increasingly shaped by complex regulatory requirements, rising researcher expectations, and the need for seamless, data‑driven digital services. The Research Refresh digital transformation project addresses these challenges through a coordinated program of work focused on modernising research systems, improving integration, and strengthening governance across the research lifecycle.
This presentation provides an overview of the work being undertaken as part of the Research Refresh initiative, including the replacement and enhancement of core research platforms, improvements to system interoperability, and the redesign of supporting processes to be more user‑centred and sustainable. It explores how technical architecture, data quality, vendor engagement, and change management are being aligned to deliver practical outcomes for researchers, administrators, and institutional leadership.
The session will highlight key lessons learned, early impacts, and the critical role of collaboration between technology teams and research stakeholders. Attendees will gain insight into how digital transformation can be approached in a structured, incremental, and people‑focused way while laying the foundations for future innovation.
