There is an unspoken reality of a significant root cause to technology failures that no one calls out in higher education and in corporate. Everyone is trained to seek 'buy-in' from staff within an organisation. Without it, it is a commonly accepted truth, that 'traction' and 'adoption' is hard or won't be possible. The trouble with this approach is two-fold. First, if everyone's input is required (experienced in the matter or not), you end up with too many cooks in the kitchen, with an impossible recipe to deliver, and at high risk it was the wrong meal in the end. The second issue is the input can be one of personal opinion and preference, both of which is usually completely counteractive to the objective at hand, yet IT professionals are obliged to incorporate it. In this keynote, I expand on the statement - "What if the 'Buy-In' is wrong?"
