National research infrastructure exists to enable better research outcomes, yet traditional project management frameworks typically measure success through financial return on investment, schedule adherence, and scope delivery. When the value of your projects is measured not in dollars but in datasets made discoverable, tools adopted by researchers or collaborations enabled across disciplines, how does a PMO meaningfully track and demonstrate that impact?
The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) operates as a co-investment partnership model delivering projects where success is defined by the difference they make for researchers and the broader research community.
This presentation shares the journey that ARDC's PMO has taken to capture project outputs and outcomes as well as the challenges of collecting data to demonstrate project impact across distributed, cross-organisational project teams.
Attendees will come away with practical insights into how project outputs and outcomes are documented, along with lessons learned from a lean PMO operating across multiple institutional boundaries.
