Accessible procurement: Managing Risk via Accessible ICT Procurement

In digital projects accessibility is often treated as a "final coat of paint" applied during the development phase. However, true digital equity begins much earlier - at the point of purchase.

When organisations procure software, hardware, or services that aren’t accessible, they unknowingly bake exclusion into their infrastructure, creating technical debt and legal risk that is costly to remediate.

This session reframes digital accessibility through the lens of IT Risk Management. We will move beyond basic WCAG checklists to explore how accessibility vulnerabilities can be identified, quantified, and mitigated using the principles of risk management.

Key themes include:

  • Accessible ICT Procurement Standards
  • Risk Management Principles and how they relate to accessibility
  • Accessibility Risk Treatment Options within University Context
  • Alternative Access Planning
